Open Build Service
The Open Build Service (OBS) allows for centralized, automated software package creation. The service will work for a range of Linux distributions and even for Windows systems. Currently supported distributions include SUSE Linux Enterprise, Red Hat Enterprise, Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE , Arch Linux and their derivatives. Beyond individual software packages, you can also use OBS to build images for virtual machines, image-based installations, and containers.
Originally developed by SUSE and released as open source software, OBS delivers a comprehensive solution. B1 Systems is SUSE’s recommended support partner for OBS. Our team provides direct first- and second-level support, with third-level support handled in collaboration with SUSE. We’re your single point of contact for any questions – whether through our hotline, via email, or through our ticket system.
What we offer:
- in-house OBS installation & configuration
- hosting & running your OBS instance

What our clients say
For Apollo Optik we implemented a provisioning system based on SUSE Manager and connected it to their ERP software, among other systems. We also set up an Open Build Service for Apollo’s internally developed software tools and connected it to both their SVN version management system and SUSE Manager.
Here’s how it works: Software versions tagged in SVN get automatically built in the Open Build Service and then transferred to SUSE Manager, where they can be easily rolled out to the target systems.
Open-Xchange AG uses the Open Build Service in conjunction with Jenkins to create installation packages for supported Linux distributions from successfully tested source code.
To avoid storing source code multiple times and needlessly wasting storage space, Open-Xchange commissioned B1 Systems to develop a deletion function for source code in the Open Build Service and to contribute it back upstream.
Airbus Defence and Space develops custom software for evaluating test flights. B1 Systems adapted the Open Build Service with specialized modules to meet their specific requirements.
These modules do several things: they connect the Open Build Service to Airbus’s version management system and automatically notify developers when errors occur. Since developers don’t have direct access to the Open Build Service, we also developed and deployed a streamlined interface for them with minimal functions.
KKH Kaufmännische Krankenkasse is one of Germany’s largest health insurance providers and a leading statutory health insurer. Smooth business processes involving member data are absolutely crucial for their operations.
That’s why B1 Systems has been supporting KKH since 2013, helping them set up and run a high-availability Linux environment from day one of the project.
We’ve been KKH’s trusted partner from planning through implementation and continue to support their server operations while providing employee training on topics like SUSE Manager, Open Build Service, and clustering.
Their current solution runs on a high-availability cluster using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, hosting business-critical SAP applications and databases.
This open source solution replaced a proprietary system entirely.
